Bring Back My Old Homepage!!

Earlier this week, it appears that YouTube forced their new layout with no option to revert back to the original. I remember there was an option to try it out weeks before which I did and quickly reverted back.

I think the new layout is too cluttered. Even though the old layout only displayed the most recent videos posted by your subscribers, I didn't mind the extra click if I wanted to see if more was posted.

So, as a temporary fix, I am setting my bookmark to open to the subscriptions page:
http://www.youtube.com/my_subscriptions

This is fairly close to the original homepage until such time as YouTube rolls back to the new layout. I do not appear to be the only one that is not happy with the changes and hopefully, the roll back will occur soon.

So, try out the page and make it your bookmark as well... or not...

Answer:

I believe this has been discontinued... at least I do not see it as an option when selecting a type of Adsense Ad to create.

I did try Adsense for YouTube when it was still available. If memory serves me correctly, you could choose from a limited number of videos that could fit with the topic of the page to which you will be inserting the ad.

I would suggest that you make your own video for whatever topic and place regular Adsense for Content ads around your video.

If so, I have create this little generator to help you create the link. You will just need to enter the address of the video and the time to advance to (minute and second)...

You should be able to post the link in with your comment... never posted a link within a comment before, however, so cannot confirm this myself...

Big question would be if the address will be converted to a link when you save your comment... Usually, comments are plain text and HTML is not allowed...

I've seen a lot of questions asking how long it will take to upload a particular video to YouTube...

This depends on certain things...

One... how big is the movie file you are uploading? The bigger the file, the longer it will take... If you keep your video in high resolution, these files tend to be very big...

Second... how fast is your upload rate? You may need to take one of the online speed tests to see what your upload rate is... for me, mine is about 40KB / sec...

Use DIVX or XVID avi files... these codecs usually produce the most color and resolution in a compact size.
Use MP3 encoded music/audio for the background of your video... like DIVX and XVID are the best formats to use for video, MP3 is the best for audio.
Make the resolution of your video 320 x 240... For the new wide screen format, use 640 x 360... This way, you will ensure that your video looks good in this resolution before you upload it to YouTube. If it is any larger, YouTube will modify your video to this resolution and the resulting video may downgrade because of the conversion process.

This does take a bit of learning to accomplish this... Try going to your local library and look for a book that could guide you step-by-step in how to create a good video for posting on YouTube. You need to make these tweeks before you actually upload the video if you want to ensure that your video has the best quality... otherwise, you will be dependent on the conversion method of YouTube if your video does not meet their requirements and need to be shrunk in size and resolution.

Contact the person who posted the now deleted video to see if they can share it with you
Do a regular search on the title of the deleted video to see if it has been posted on another video sharing site

Log on to YouTube (just in case it gets saved in more than just a cookie)
Up at the top, next to the YouTube logo, look for two links... if you have not set a preference yet, the two links should read "Worldwide" and "English"... if you have it set to a specific country, you will see the country's name next to "English"...
Click on "Worldwide" or the country...
You can now choose your Country Preference...
Choose "Worldwide" to not have your videos zone in on a specific country...

Can I use music I purchased in my video?

Generally, when you purchase music, you are only buying rights to play it for yourself and generally can't copy it and distribute it... the safest thing to do would be to use some of the music YouTube has gotten permission for use in their users' videos...

If you are really set in using a particular piece of music, go ahead and use it... but be prepared to have your video removed by YouTube if the owner of the copyright makes a complaint...

Follow these other suggestions:

Do not include the entire piece of music in the video... mix it up with other songs... this way, you are not giving away the music you purchased for free. If the viewers of your video like the music, they may go out and buy it for themselves...
Give credit to the artist by displaying the complete song title and the artist's name... you can include it in the ending credits of the video or in the description of the video...
Even better... become an affiliate of a music web site and add a link to the music or album... since you are helping the artist make money, this may make them consider your video to be a form of free advertising and will not ask YouTube to remove it.

Normally, people will say that it has to have state of the art graphics similar to the Final Fantasy games... and any of the current video games in general... but the regular video maker doesn't have access to the powerful machines used to create those videos...

You can create a nice animation video with regular stick figures...

Look at this video by Ryan Higa... I know... I like his stuff, ok?

Anyways, he has chosen a very catchy song for the background music... and precisely timed the animation to the music... the animation is pretty smooth and fast, kinda flowing... and he throws in some live pictures here and there for a funny effect...

The topic is a bit morbid, but it's funny...

It depends...

If you upload music which is owned by a record label that is actively looking for any copyright violations and reporting a complaint to YouTube, you will get your videos removed... and with enough of these complaints, YouTube can disable your account...

Unfortunately, this has happened to Kyle Landry... an excellent piano artist that plays improvisations of anime songs... not recordings of these songs, but actual tweeked versions of these songs using his skill... his account got disabled and has not been enabled, even after all the requests from his fans to give his account back...

If you need music for your videos, try using the "legal" music.

One reason may be that YouTube just received a complaint from a major copyright owner stating that they need to remove all content that they have identified to be theirs.

YouTube generally performed a search for the titles provided which is pretty good... but some videos which may sound similar to the title provided by the complaining copyright owner may also be removed.

Well, since YouTube saves all your history from browsing, subscribing and favorites, it is able to make a good guess by counting to see which type of videos you have viewed more often.

If it sees that a new video has been uploaded that matches your viewing preferences, it will add this video to the "Recommended For You" section...

Depends on who does the posting...

If the owner of the copyright of the movie posts the video, then it is legal.

For anyone else to post it, it is illegal...

There are many people that ignore the copyright rules because they want the views... these videos may get deleted by YouTube if the copyright owner makes a complaint... and the users may get deleted by YouTube if they get enough complaints against them...

However, since many of these copyrighted clips are uploaded every day, YouTube cannot completely delete them... and it requires a complaint to be files before they are removed...

So, depending on the copyright owner... they may allow the videos to remain if they think of it as free publicity and it could potentially make them money... but it all depends...

This is the reason why you stumble across videos which have a note that they have been deleted.

How do people get TV clips on to YouTube?

There are different ways:

DVR recorder devices which have a means of connecting them via USB to your computer and pull the video as files. You can then take the clips using a program like Microsoft Movie Maker.
Having the special video card on your computer that allows you to watch regular TV on your computer. These may have an option to save the video as files which you can edit accordingly.
Have a DVD recorder. Record your TV show as you would with a video tape... then, you'll need to convert the DVD video files to a format that you can update with software... you may be able to find software that will allow you to edit the DVD video files directly without conversion.

Lastly, the step that many people forget, is saving the movie to a file that you can upload to YouTube...

I have been seeing videos with copyrighted music that have a link to purchase the music from Amazon or other vendor. If more copyright holders see inclusion of their music as free advertising, this might become an issue of the past soon.

In this time and age, memory is very cheap. What used to cost $300 for a 16MB (yes, I did mean mega-byte) hard-drive, you can get a 2GB in device the size of a keychain (or smaller) for $40.

YouTube is owned by the powerhouse company, Google. They probably have a room (or building) that is dedicated to storage... many servers with multiple terrabyte drives (that's 1024 GB) to hold all the new videos that people are posting every day.

So, I don't think they will be running out of space any time soon.
